Glory of St. Charles Borromeo

Angels lift the saint toward Heaven, where he is awaited by the Trinity. The latter is depicted in the manner that came to be the standard in the 17th century: the Son on the left with a cross, the Father on the right, and the Holy Spirit as a dove hovering between and above them. The chief difference from other Trinity images of the time is that the Son's cross is diminutive rather than full-size.
As usual, Borromeo is pictured with a thin face and nose and wearing the red mantle of a cardinal over a white
surplice
and red cassock.
